Wilbur B. Crimmin
Wil, as we all knew him, died on February 14, 2005. Wil was a member of The Rotary Club of Hartford from 1974 until his death. He will be remembered for his quite, gentle, thoughtful nature. He came to the Hartford Public Library in 1961 to head the Business, Science and Technology Department from the Free Library of Philadelphia. Wil was named Chief Librarian in 1973 and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1984. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and on December 3, 1949 married Margaret Griffeth in Seattle. Wil graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1950 with a BA in Music from the University of Washington. He continued his education at the University of California, Berkeley, earning a BS in Library Science in 1954.
